Hello,
I have just installed Ubuntu 18.04 in my laptop, but Touchpad horizontal scrolling is not available.
I have intalled dconf to see if I can enable it, but I cannot see any option to do this.
Have someone experimented this problem?

[SOLVED] hplip

I stupidly installed hplip from hp's page to get my printer working in 18.10. It warned me 18.10 wasn't supported but would install
18.04 instead. I'm now getting errors when trying to do "apt upgrade". Is there a way to roll back to the hplip that came default with 18.10?

Hello,
After my system entering in suspension, when I try to wake up, it never does it again, so I need to force shutdown, disconnecting power.

[ubuntu] Problem with HDMI connection

Hello.
I'm using Ubuntu 14.04. My laptop is an Acer Aspire 5738G, with a graphic card ATI Mobility Radeon HD4570.
From the first moment I installed Ubuntu everything has been working fine, including the graphics.
But now I cannot connect a new projector (LG PH30JG) using the HDMI connection.
It's the first time I'm trying to use HDMI in this laptop with Ubuntu.
In "System Settings"---"Displays" I can see the projector as "Goldstar Company Ltd. 72"". In the projector image something seems to happen with HDMI input, but after some seconds says "no signal".
I've been searching information about this problem, and seems to be related to the graphic card drivers. But in "Additional Drivers" I can't choose any other driver ("no additional drivers available"), although it says "not using proprietary drivers".
I've searched and downloaded the driver "amd-driver-installer-catalyst-13.1-legacy-linux-x86.x86_64" from www.amd.com, but I don't know what to do with it, or if this will be the solution to my problem with HDMI.
I've had no problems with any driver or with the graphic card, so I'm not sure about changing drivers now.
Anybody can help me to connect the projector with HDMI?
Thank you.

[kde] HTPC puzzle

$

Have run various flavors of KDE/Ubuntu for the last 7 years to operate a HTPC. Thought that I'd throw a 4K TV into the mix. The current configuration is:

.................................................. .................................................. ................................ -> 1K TV
KDE Neon (Nvidia 650 ti) HDMI -> 1K UMC-200 preamp (with video pass-through) -> 1K HDMI splitter -> 1K Epson projector
........................................ -^ DAC

Both the splitter and preamp can't pass a 4K video signal. Can you use both the Nvidia HDMI and the display port with a hdmi adapter to simultaneously output the same A/V signal to create the new configuration below?

........................ DP to HDMI -> 4K TV
KDE Neon (Nvidia 650 ti) HDMI -> 1K UMC-200 preamp -> 1K Epson projector
........................................ -^ DAC

Running HDMI straight from the computer to the TV works in 4K. Running both Nvidia ports separately to the preamp and TV works in Windows 10 (different computer). If using both Nvidia ports for simultaneous A/V output is possible in KDE Neon, are there audio and video configuration issues in KDE Neon or X that I need to consider?

I'm currently running the proprietary Nvidia drivers in X. Is Wayland a better way to go?

Let me know what info I didn't pass along. Other ideas also appreciated.

Thanks,
Kurt

No Intel On Board sound after upgrade to Cosmic

I just upgraded to Cosmic and now I'm only getting the option for HDMI sound from my NVIDIA card. Previously I was using the onboard sound from my motherboard, which supplies a digital output. My speakers don't have HDMI input so I can't just switch. How can I get the onboard sound to show up again?

[server] Motherboard replacement started "flashing" monitor

$

So I hope I can explain this well. Recently I had to get a motherboard replaced....exact same type/brand. I run xwindows and fluxbox. My symptoms are the monitor going black for just a second, and then coming back up...almost like signal is gone like when the display has been put to sleep, but fast enough that you don't see the search for VGA or HDMI on the monitor itself. Power is still on, and the power light stays on. I see this behaviour:

in xwindows
in a console (no x)

but not in a bios screen. I've tested on a different HDMI cable and monitor and I see the same results. None of this happened before swapping out the motherboard. I have a duplicate server that I use to hot swap and I do not see this behaviour.

So my questions are:

is there a way to "reset" my video drivers, not for X but for the system proper?
is that something I even need to do?
is there a way to monitor signal/power on the HDMI output to see if I see any fluctuations?

Thank you..this one really has me stumped.

[ubuntu] x server not loading settings when booting

Hi all,

I'm still pretty new to ubuntu and got a problem configuring my graphics settings.

I'm using a multi monitor setup and by default, they are not in the correct order. When I configure them, save the changes and even save to x configuration file, all changes are lost once I reboot.

I have installed nvidia 490.73 drivers from the official nvidia repo and am using Ubuntu 18.04. I checked the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and it has the correct settings in it. However, it doesn't seem loaded during booting for some reason. I tried a ton of "solutions" I found online, but none helped. Any ideas? It's pretty annoying to reconfigure the display settings every time I boot the pc.

2nd Monitor not working

I have:

Xubuntu 16.04
ASUS X550-LB laptop
(Onboard Intel & NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M)
ASUS VW226 Monitor

All working fine till today
Now 2nd monitor not working
Also not detected in Windows 10
I tried new HDMI cable

Since Monitor is working and problem is in Xubuntu & Windows (so not drivers?) does this mean a hardware problem with the Laptop?

Anyone know how to repair?

Weird dual screen problem

I have 2 screens:

1. an old Sony monitor, connected by HDMI
2. a Benq monitor, connected by DisplayPort

A Dell T5500.

The old Sony is my 'first' screen. I did not find a way to change that.

The weird thing is:

- when I disconnect the 1st screen and reboot, I don't see anything
- I mean: the second screen is just 'blank', so to speak
- if I type my password I can login and the 2nd screen will 'work'

Any ideas?

Optimus Laptop Testing Prime Select and Im LOVING IT!

Hello how are you guys doing?

Ive been using My laptop with GTX 850m and Optimus Technology for some time, always came back to windows because of the tearing problem...then came bumblebee as a temporary solution, in fact it was much better for me, no more tearing, but still some minor problems while running 3d got me and disappointed me..I used to run Arch Based distros because it was really a pain in the ass to fix the problems with it on deb based distros but it changed!

I have read that ubuntu devs where requiring people to test this new optimus solution implemented, actually it ' s freaking good! Im testing with Lutris, Wine, Steam Proton and i only have good things to say..

The only problem i had? tearing ( Yeah this is an old problem with optimus drivers).

So what do i think?

I think its amazing, a huge step forward actually, got more stability using 3D and to fix tearing what i did was :

sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-drm-nomodeset.conf

options nvidia-drm modeset=1

sudo update-initramfs -u

And also i installed the Nvidia 410 drivers using the ppa drivers instead of the suggested ones ( the suggested ones are still on 390, its too old, would like to see an update faster about it, its impossible to use dxvk with 390 ones)

So my impressions are these, would help if you could include these steps on the driver installer script, actually i would love to work at canonical, im actively applying and dont require visa to EU as far as im Italian hahah..

Thats it, thanks and keep the good work!

[all variants] Corsair Mouse Needs to be Re-plugged After Boot (Sometimes)

After booting Ubuntu, my wired Corsair RGP0030 mouse will sometimes need to be re-plugged for it to work. This never happens when going into my BIOS settings or booting into Windows. So far, I haven't noticed this problem during cold boots or running live versions of Ubuntu. Also, the LED light on the mouse seems to stay lit well past booting Ubuntu. Seems to turn off around the time the desktop is loaded.

I've tried every combination of USB settings on my motherboard, an ASUS H270F, with no luck.

Here's some output from dmesg after the mouse failing and re-plugging:

Lubuntu 18.04 printer not working but recognised

Hi

I recently upgraded to 18.04 and my Brother printer's no longer working. It will print a test page no problem. When I try and print something it will register it as completed. The printer itself says receiving date and then goes to sleep without having done anything.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling - no luck. installed from localhost instead of wizard, installed drivers from brother.
I've tried all the solutions on all the threads I could find one by one - nada.

The only thing that I found that I then didn't know what to do with is from the ubuntu debugging printers page: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingPrintingProblems
For step 7 the permission is one for a HP printer not non-HP
crw-rw-r--+ 1 root lp 189, 130 Nov 12 21:47 /dev/bus/usb/002/003

I don't know the relevance of that or how to change it as the page doesn't actually tell you how to change it if the permissions are not right.

any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

RAID array unmounts spontaneously

Ubuntu Server 16.04

I have a client system with a 2-device RAID0 array that mounts at boot with fstab. After some uptime, generally a few days, the array is unmounted and I have been unable to get it to remount without rebooting the server. This is a problem. Any insight on troubleshooting this? I will attempt to post what appears relevant, then I will have to reboot this system to get the array back online.

Installing an audio interface driver (Behringer and Ardour)

Hello! I am trying to install the driver for an audio interface (Behringer XENYX 1204USB) to run with a digital audio workstation (Ardour). I am hoping someone can tall me if it's possible, or what I am doing wrong. I am very new to linux.
Here is the driver zip file: BEHRINGER_2902_X64_2.8.40.zip
I extracted the file, but I'm not sure what to do next. I can't open the setup.exe file. I found a forum post on the Behringer website that said that people do use this interface with linux, but it seems like maybe it's not supported?
Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

Hello!

My notebook is running Xubuntu 18.04.
I got this USB3.0-SATA Adapter: Genesys Logic, Inc. GL3310 SATA 3Gb/s Bridge Controller 05e3:0731
When I plug it into an USB 2.0 port on my Notebook (hp 8770w with Mobile Intel QM77 Express chipset)
dmesg is showing:
Quote:

and everything is working fine.

But when I plug it into an USB3.0 port it does not work. dmesg says:
Quote:

[409249.874168] usb 4-4: new SuperSpeed USB device number 5 using xhci_hcd
[409249.894074] usb 4-4: New USB device found, idVendor=05e3, idProduct=0731

..
and nothing more.
In general the USB3.0 port is working with other USB3.0 devices (at superspeed).
It does not detect the SATA drive connected to the adapter and there's no corresponding device in /dev
In general the USB3.0 port is working with other USB3.0 devices (at superspeed).
When I then unplug the Adapter from the USB3.0 port dmesg says:
Quote:

[409285.119902] xhci_hcd 0000:00:14.0: Cannot set link state.
[409285.119908] usb usb4-port4: cannot disable (err = -32)
This error does not come up after disconnecting the adapter from an USB2.0 port! So I think it is related to the problem.

I found that I probably need to activate a quirk related to this controller and I found on there:
https://github.com/torvalds/linux/bl...unusual_devs.h
But how do I load the "usb_storage" module with this quirk (USB - SATA):
Quote:

/* Reported by Ben Efros <ben@pc-doctor.com> */
UNUSUAL_DEV( 0x05e3, 0x0723, 0x9451, 0x9451,
"Genesys Logic",
"USB to SATA",
USB_SC_DEVICE, USB_PR_DEVICE, NULL,
US_FL_SANE_SENSE ),
My device is usually shown as product it: 0731

Thank you for help!
