How to rebuild MBR and partitions table

Hello everyone,
I have a problem of my 3TB hard disk. I tried the "boot repair" .
boot repair show me this:
Invalid MBR Signature found. Unknown MBR on /dev/sdb

And I also tried the "testdisk":
but show me the incorrect size of my 3TB on sdb, only see 4142 MB / 3950 MiB. So I can't move to next step.

Please help me!

Im looking for an older used netbook (10 display) with UMTS/3G modem.

I need a dedicated SSH client on the road, so Im planning to use the device in terminal only mode without a graphical user interface.

There are lots of used atom based netbooks from around 2009-2012 out there.

Ive looked at the HP Mini 5013 and the Lenovo Ideapad S10-2 but Ive read mixed reviews about the broadband support.

Any recommendations?

Hola, ¿que tal? me dirijo acá porque ya no se como solucionarlo. Tengo un teclado viejo (2005/2006) Genius multimedia KB-21e Scroll y un ratón o mouse de la misma marca NetScroll 120, de ambos pongo fotos debajo.

Mi dificultad es la siguiente, del teclado, no funcionan las teclas de: Stop, Refresh, Search, My Computer, Excel y Word, también es curioso que no enciende o se activa el Bloq Despl; es caso del ratón, no reacciona el botón de la rueda de desplazamiento, funciona porque hace clic pero no se activa su función. Por favor, alguien sabe como se puede configurar. Gracias :D

My difficulty is the following, from the keyboard, the keys do not work: Stop, Refresh, Search, My Computer, Excel and Word, it is also curious that it does not turn on or activate the Scroll Lock; it is the case of the mouse, the scroll wheel button does not react, it works because it clicks but its function is not activated. The new bluetooth autoswitch is a nice thought and my sound output does indicate that it has switched to the bluetooth device when it the device connects, but the sound still comes out of the laptop speaker. If I manually switch the sound output back to laptop and then to bluetooth again, it starts working fine. Given the situation, I'd actually rather it not automatically switch in the first place because then I'd just have to manually switch it once. My base hardware is an Acer V3-772g laptop. Any clues or guidance as to what to make a bug report on?

I have some issues on my laptop. I use Kubuntu 17.10. Sometimes I get this error message in syslog and kern.log and this error message is immediately repeated and syslog writes the hard disk full. Also in this moment wifi doesnt work properly anymore. Not sure how these are related

Hi,
I have asus gl502vs-gz128t with fresh Ubuntu 17.10 installed, and i've connected 2 screens (via hdmi and miniDP). When system boots, i can see that all 3 screens are on, but once i log in one of them(build-in) turns off. Based on xrandr it looks fine, on display menu in settings too. Can you tell me what should i do to fix this?

This motherboard advertises it has 1 x 5Gb/s USB Type C port (@back panel) support 3A power output

But I don't notice any change in the charging speed.

I have noticed that a specific Asus software for USB charging exists, but I'm on GNU/Linux and it's only for Windows (what a surprise!)

Does anybody know how to configure this fast charging/3A power output? I don't want to install Windows just for this function.

Purchased a 10" cube mix plus with keyboard and Wacom stylus.
This is a Chinese convertible laptop / tablet with intel Kaby Lake hardware.
Performance with Linux is very good.
Ubuntu 17.10 supports all hardware by default and I am very impressed with how this thing performs with Ubuntu , so far so good...
The following is a list of issues I am having:

1: Wacom hardware works, but stylus is not recognised in the Ubuntu settings panel.
2: Auto rotate screen works, but is 180% (ie: screen ends up upside down in portrait mode)
3: Do not know how to disable touch screen when stylus is in proximity to screen (when sketching I want the touch screen to ignore inputs from everything but the stylus)

I purchased two of these tablet/laptops (One for me, one for my daughter). My daughters will remain on Windows 10, this is a requirement for her school work.
I on the other hand want Linux running on mine. And it is, apart from the above issues.

Any help is much appreciated.

I have a PC with an onboard sound card, but also a Sound Blaster Z card installed.

I use Ubuntu 16.04.

For a long time, the Sound Blaster Z card hasn't worked in Ubuntu (it works in Windows, so the card isn't faulty).

Here the other day, my sound suddenly wasn't working at all. I saw that my onboard sound card wasn't appearing on the list of output choices (under “System settings” -> “Sound”). Only the Sound Blaster Z card appeared (as it has before). I moved my S/PDIF cable from the onboard sound card to the Sound Blaster Z card and – halleluja! – there was sound!

Weirdly, some days later things have changed again.

I suddenly have no sound from the Sound Blaster card, and have to specifically turn the onboard sound card on (“Enabled”, not “Auto”) in the BIOS settings for it to show up in the list of choices in “Output” (“System settings” -> “Sound”). Then, moving the S/PDIF cable back to the onboard sound card, I can get sound again. (Weirdly, I can't get the list of input choices to show the mic input of the onboard sound card – only the Sound Blaster ones are showing. It wasn't like this before this whole series of changes began.)

Weird. This was a sad process. I thought this finally would be the time when the Sound Blaster Z would work, and keep on doing so into the future. But I'm back to basic again.

Anyone experienced this? Are there hopes in getting the Sound Blaster Z card to work again?

I obtained a digital microscope usb_microscope.jpg and i try to make it work on my ubuntu studio computer. Didn't manage to do it till now, so any help would be appreciated.

I run ubuntu studio 16.04.3 LTS

Plugging the microscope in a usb port, makes it's led light to light on. No device is recognised through GUI though.

So the device is a UVC device. As suggested at http://www.ideasonboard.org/uvc/faq/#faq1, I had already run the command:

I tried with "cheese" and "guvcview", but no input is recognised.

Hey everyone!
I just got my Dell E Port Plus Advanced PR02X Docking Station for my laptop.
It is all compatible and fits in nicely. I'm trying to get it to work with Kubuntu 17.10
It works with Windows 10 when I boot up windows 10 on my flash drive.

I have the 4.13.16 linux kernel because none of the 4.14 kernels work with my VM software.
I have the latest released BIOS update for this laptop installed.

Have not experienced any issues as of late except it just doesn't want to see the port replicator.
I'd love to get back to coding and using multiple monitors... It's just not working.

In audio settings, the microphone shows the dock as an option, but nothing else anywhere else shows.
The USB ports don't even register... Could there be something in BIOS that needs to assign the docking station?

HELLPP!! I'm usually really good at this stuff and I never go to these forums for help but I'm stumped for now.

Scrap this question. The entire dock was faulty getting worse the more I tried using it. I'm returning it.

Odd USB Speed Behavior on New System

On my old (10.04LTS) system, I had a 2tb USB hard drive connected that was auto-mounted via fstab using the following command:

which worked perfectly. 60-90MB/sec transfer speeds. I transferred everything to a new system (with 16.04LTS) and the transfer speeds to this same drive dropped to 2MB/sec. I changed the fstab entry to:

and the speed increased to about 7MB/sec. I noticed that if I plugged another drive in, speeds were up to about 90MB/sec. So I deactivated the fstab entry, rebooted the computer and just plugged the drive in. Sure enough, speeds were back up to ~90MB/sec like they should be. That's great, but I need this auto-mounted to a specific mount point so it can be accessed over my network by other devices.

Any idea why this is acting this way?

I recently got a xps 13 laptop and replaced windows with Ubuntu, everything works fine except that if i close my screen and then reopen it there is this constant crackling/popping/static sound that changes depending on what input the user is providing from the keyboard and mouse. Rebooting will fix the issue until the screen is closed again.

Changing the volume does not seem to have an effect on how loud the static is but if the volume is fully muted than the static will stop.

I'm running Ubuntu 17.04 and have the HDMI output of my machine connected to a Slingbox. The Slingbox will only recognise a limited range of display settings, and the only one that works well (from testing with Windows 10) is 1920x1080, 32 bit, 30Hz. The graphics card is a Radeon HD 4200.

I have found the xrandr command for setting the resolution and refresh rate, but can't find where to set the colour depth. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I'm a relative Linux novice, so dummies' instructions would be best!

I'm a relative Linux novice, but have been trying to setup a HTPC using Ubuntu and an MCE Remote Control. The thing I can't work out how to do is launch my HTPC front-end (Kodi) using the KEY_MEDIA button on my remote.

From the Googling that I've done so far, it seems that this was possible using irexec with Ubuntu 16.* and earlier, but since the IR functionality was moved into the kernel in 17.* this is no longer possible - i.e. the upgrade from 16.* to 17.* removes significant IR functionality that existed with the LIRC package. Is that correct, or is there a way of doing this with Ubuntu 17.* that I'm not aware of?

Having just upgraded to 17.10 Xsane fails with "Error during read: Error during device I/O". Previously, I'd had a problem with Xsane after migrating to 64 bit ubuntu. This was fixed. The error I get this time is different and Canon scangearmp works fine. Also, I see that libsane is now libsane1 and updated to 1.0.27-1~experimental2ubuntu2. Therefore I'm not sure if the original fix will work or indeed how to install as Xsane is now dependent on libsane1.

Wayland Wacom touchscreen

Is there any way to disable touchscreen when wacom stylus is in proximity.

I have a Cube convertible laptop that uses a 10 point multitouch panel with wacom support.

Using the stylus is nice under ubuntu, but unfortunately you cannot disable touch when sketching...

This causes errant inputs.

I can disable the touch panel using modprobe, but then you can't pinch to zoom or pan with finger gestures.

In windows 10 there is a setting that allows you to disable touch input when the stylus is in proximity,

Can this be done with wayland / Gnome?

Scanner problem - Scanjet 4850 on Ubuntu 16.04

I'm attempting to use my trusty old HP Scanjet 4850 on a computer running Ubuntu 16.04.
So far this has proved to be something of a problem and now I'm stuck.

The application gscan2pdf appears to work, because the lamp can be seen scanning under a test
document, but the final image is completely black.
The other application, XSane, scans and then promptly crashes.

It would be good to hear from anyone who is successfully using the same or similar hardware on this Linux distribution.
If the only way is to invest in scanning software, then I would be interested to read reviews first.
My aim is to have something equivalent to ScanSoft's PaperPort on Ubuntu, if possible.
