[ubuntu] Raspberry Pi 4B - Ubuntu 19.10 - Unmanaged Wired Network Problem

$

I successfully Installed "ubuntu-19.10-preinstalled-server-armhf+raspi3.img", installed the updates and the Ubuntu Desktop. The wired network shows "Unmanaged" although I can use Firefox. Software won't install since there isn't a network present. I found a few suggestions on how to enable managed wired networking but the instructions are incomplete - like they were written for someone who knew how to perform the tasks outlined. Is there a patch one can download to solve the problem? If not, will one be released soon? Thanks!

[ubuntu] No jack detected in Lenovo Laptop

Hi, I've currently posted this in https://answers.launchpad.net (https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/685934)
But it doesn't seems to be noticed. I will copy'n'paste my post so you will not have to click it:

Hi,
I've recently bought new laptop and installed Ubuntu 19.10 on it. Internal speakers work great, but jack output isn't recognized by the system (when I plug in my headphones the sound still goes trough internal speakers, also I can only see internal speakers in "output" section of pavucontrol). I also tried Debian sid previously to this Ubuntu with same result. Jack output is running properly on dualbooted Windows 10.

Result of alsa information script:
http://alsa-project.org/db/?f=02a360...459ced8fb40784

I've tried (without luck):
1. "alsa restore"
2. mesing with /usr/share/pulseaudio/alsa-mixer/paths/ (then restored to previous configuration)
3. modifying /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf (also restored after)

If you would like any other info I will try to provide it asap.

Thanks a lot!

USB mouse keeps disconnecting

My USB mouse keeps disconnecting every few minutes, sometimes multiple times a minute. I tried another mouse and it does the same thing. This constant disconnection and reconnection causes the mouse to stutter and lag. I'm using kubuntu 18.04.3 and I have installed all software updates. My system's CPU is a Pentium G4400. I've tried different USB ports and it still does this. Does anyone know how to fix this? This is what the system log shows:

HDA Audio C230 no headphone jack output

Hey peers,

I have the Realtek ALC668 in an Asus Rog Laptop. When inserting the Headphones the sound still comes out of the front speakers but no sound on the headphones. In Windows, when inserting the Headphones a Realtek HD Audio Manager pops up, and the sound will only be directed to the headphone jack after the user has told the prompt wether it is an headphone or loutspeakers. So i suppose this sound card needs to be switched by the OS somehow.

The sound card has also a line-out which could be used but it has a terrible high pitched noise - the switching workes in case though.

Do you have any idea how to make it work?

here is some more Info:
Code:

cat /proc/asound/card0/codec* | grep Codec
Codec: Realtek ALC668

Code:

cat /proc/asound/cards

Spontaneous rebooting and syslog not updating

I have a Dell XPS Studio 7100 on which I just installed Lubuntu 18.04. It has begun doing a spontaneous reboot every so often. One thing that seems to trigger it is when I am reviewing the syslog file, scrolling through it....but it doesn't do it every time then, either. I have a 430 watt power supply, one HD, 2 DVD drives, and a Radeon 300se graphics card. I switched out the CMOS, in case that was the problem, and it didn't seem to change anything.

Also, the syslog hasn't updated since 9:18a this morning, and I had the PC on for 3 hours after that (spontaneously rebooting every 20 - 30 minutes).

Not sure if these two issues are connected, but wanted to share them both in case it helps point out the issue.

I am planning to run a Mem28 test tonight and wanted to check here to see if anyone has any other ideas.

Thanks!

[ubuntu] Dual-Boot Gaming Laptop Recommendation

Hi, I need to get a new laptop (from the UK) that's of a gaming spec and I ideally want to make sure I can get it dual-booting with Ubuntu. I'm well behind on hardware so I was wondering if there were any good recommendations. I'm more than capable of setting it up (I'm guessing the likelihood of getting one pre-loaded with both is zero) but I'm on the dev side of IT so I'm a bit behind on the secure boot bits that are lurking around now, and seem to be ever changing. I don't need an absolutel hardocre gaming beast, just something capable of running modern games, particularly WoW and that (in particular) has a modern graphics card that will have a good few years of life in it before it's too low spec for the games (which is what "killed" my last one). If it's too much agro to set up a proper dual-boot then I'm sure I could run Ubuntu in a VM under Windows, as the machine should be pokey enough to handle that if it's gaming spec, but I'd prefer to have it dual-booting, if it's not too much agro (I've heard that some Windows updates can nerf/reset the MBR so the boot-loader then needs re-installing?)

Cheers

My 2tb HD that I backup to is 90 pct full.

I'm thinking of getting a 3 or 4 tb to replace it. Are there any considerations to watch out for? For reliability, is a 3 or 4 better?

My main machine is a 4 yr old AMD desktop running under BIOS.

Thanks

old creative VF0050 webcam into ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS

Dear community,

We are trying to use an old webcam in a new Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS. We haven't too much experience with this and we are not sure if it's possible.

The webcam model is: Creative Live! VF0050

The operating system detects it once it's connected through USB and the webcam led gets illuminated. But programs like Cheese and other similar we've tested, tell us there are no video devices. We guess we are not using a correct driver but we have no idea which would work or where to look at.

This is the dmesg output just immediately after connecting the webcam via USB 2.0:
Code:

[ 1450.974242] usb 4-3: new full-speed USB device number 4 using ohci-pci
[ 1451.169336] usb 4-3: New USB device found, idVendor=041e, idProduct=4036

[ 1452.539531] input: gspca_zc3xx as
/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:12.0/usb4/4-3/input/input22

Once connected, the device appears in: /dev/video0

But we get this error when we try:
Code:

cat /dev/video0
cat: /dev/video0: Invalid argument

This is part of the lsusb -v output:

We are not sure what else to test. Any advice is welcome!

I have an old Compaq Presario C700, it was running on Windows 7 and was very slow so I decided to install Ubuntu. I installed the 32 bit version of 16.04
After installed, the screen is screwed, for example if a have a red image on a side, all that vertical line above it turns into the same color. I can barely see whats under the line. It happens since the first moment I turn on the pc and shows the Compaq logo.

Does anyone have any experiences (negative, positive, or otherwise) to share about installing and running Ubuntu on an ASrock E3C246D4U motherboard? I have an opportunity to pick up one of these boards with a xeon e-2288g at a very good price and would like to use it for my homelab but cannot seem to find any discussion online as to how well it plays with Linux.

Hello him610,

I am experiencing similar problems as the original author of this thread. May I ask you for help?

I have installed a fresh Lubuntu 19.10 Eoan Ermine (Lubuntu!) from a DVD and want to get my brother scanner running. (On Lubuntu 16.10 LTS it worked fine).

Then I did the following steps:

As the directory did not exist:
Code:

~$ sudo mkdir /var/spool/lpd
Executed the "Driver Install Tool" from Brother (downloaded from here: https://support.brother.com/g/b/down...&flang=English)
Code:

~$

So this worked fine except from the following that Lubuntu complains: (as I dont know if you understand german, I translated it to english)
package ia32-libs is not available, but is referenced from another package. This can mean , that the package is missing or is superseded or is only available from another source. But the following package is replacing it:
lib32z

Restarted the PC.

Made me a participant in the scanner group: (where seb is my username)

Code:

~$ sudo usermod -a -G scanner seb
Edit config file: (whereas I add these two lines right above that line: LABEL="libsane_rules_end".)
Code:

# Brother scanners

ATTRS{idVendor}=="04f9", ENV{libsane_matched}="yes"

The printer is working fine now, but the scanner not. Simple-scan reports: Additional software needed. You need to install driver software for your scanner.

What to do?

Asus UX431FA- only works with nomodeset

Hello,

I had tried with lots of help to get a version of Ubuntu running on my laptop, the non-dedicated graphics version of the Asus Zenbook UX431FA.

All youtube videos or forum posts conclude that either try this grub edit, or just update bios the end all be all solution that always works.

No other grub edit works besides nomodeset, and I did update my bios but it still fails. Nomodeset causes the laptop to be unusable (long boot, external display not supported, no brightness control, laptop doesn’t sleep, p much 0 display controls).

Has anyone else used this specific model to any avail, or have other suggestions?

Horizontal lines sometimes flash onscreen Intel UHD 620

Hello, I have had this issue intermittently for a while, but held off on asking about it because I was trying to figure out what triggers it to no success. Periodically, horizontal, usually white, lines flash on the screen and disappear just as quickly. I cannot figure out what in the world triggers it, but it seems more likely to start happening when I have been using my computer for a while. Interestingly, it does not seem to occur on a second monitor when I connect my laptop to it via an HDMI cable. I had a previous display issue I posted about here that was resolved, but might be related: https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2429810 Even back before I resolved this previous issue, the horizontal lines flashing onscreen occurred. In addition, the problem existed on both 19.04 and 19.10 when I upgraded.

Here are the results for

Have Opera Version:64.0.3417.92, Opera is up to date.
Got a new Brother laser printer HL-L 2390DW.

Installed Brother printer on my desktop running Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS and it runs, scans, copies fine using Firefox, Chrome and Vivaldi browsers but can't get it to work with Opera Version:64.0.3417.92.
