[all variants] Any gaming/mechanical/RGB keyboards with full/OEM Linux support?

$

I have a Logitech G810 keyboard and G502 mouse, both have all the features I want under Windows, but none in Ubuntu. I understand there's Piper to customize the mouse, but it is buggy. I haven't found anything for the keyboard, yet.
I'd much rather just find a brand that supports Linux/Ubuntu natively (if there even is one) and get a new keyboard and mouse from them. Gaming has been pretty flawless on Ubuntu, but I miss being able to set per-button lighting and customizing extra buttons per game, along with having backlighting turn off after being inactive.
Maybe there's software hidden somewhere that can do all this for my Logitech keyboard and mouse, if so please mention it. But I'm more in the search of supporting a brand that supports Linux and buying from them instead.

[ubuntu] Intel i5 NUC randomly rebooting

My NUC has been rebooting randomly across 2 installs of Ubuntu 19.04 and then 18.04. Sometimes it reboots couple times a day and sometimes every couple days. It's been happening for months now. There is no pattern to the rebooting that I can notice however I have recognized a couple of events that are suspicious. The NUC will never reboot while I'm using it. Also if the monitor is actually powered off, instead of the NUC rebooting, it will just crash and I have to hard start it. Those are the only two anomalies that I notice. I'm very good on the command line but awful when it comes to going thru the logs. Any ideas? Thanks.

[ubuntu] HDMI no sound or picture

I have a Toshiba Sattelite Pro 8 gig with a 1 terrabyte HDD divided equally between Ubuntu 19.10 on one partition with Windows 10 on the other. I went to play a MP4 movie for my grandaughter and so I connected via a HDMI cable.

My wallpaper appeared but no icons or menus. I closed down Ubuntu 19.10 and rebooted to Windows and everthing worked normally. Later I retried Ubuntu and found that if I moved the mouse off screen to the extreme right it now appeared on the TV screen. I fired up VLC mediaplayer in small size and could drag it offscreen to appear on the TV but there was no sound except from the computer. In Windows partition all worked correctly. HELP I LOVE THIS OS as I do a lot of MP3 items and the speed of Ubuntu leaves Windows cold. How do I fix this?

[ubuntu] Mice Problems with USB bluetooth adapter

$

Hello, I recently installed Ubuntu on a desktop tower after some success with Mint on the same machine for the last few months. I have seen the posts about Bluetooth adapters and dongles, and I have some questions in regard to my struggles there.
This is what's happening: I have two different Bluetooth adapters, not sure the brand, but one controls my keyboard and the other is a general adapter. Never really had any issues with either on Windows or Mint. The keyboard works great, no issues. With the mice, I will find that the device connects, but with some lag, and will often come in and out and have to be manually re-connected. I am using a Logitech MX Master 2S and an Apple Magic Mouse and having the same issues with both. Each worked on Mint with no issue. I guess I would like to know if there are some drivers or other software that comes with Mint that I may just need to add?
My computer: It's an HP Compaq tower; I bought it refurbished in 2017. It has 16 GB RAM, a 1 TB SSD, and a 3rd-generation intel i5. It orginally had Windows 7 on it; I upgraded to 10 and used that for almost two years before beginning my Linux journey this past April (again, with Mint).
Any help is appreciated.

I am running Ubuntu 18.04.1 on a PC with Intel Core2 Duo.

Trying to install an Epson ET-3700.

System searches for but is unable to find correct driver.

Epson lists drivers to download for Ubuntu here:

In order to install these drivers, you need to install LSB package (version 3.2 or later) beforehand.

Ubuntu:
# apt-get install lsb

Fedora:
# yum install lsb

OpenSUSE:
# yast --install lsb

... but I have no idea how to proceed.

Many thanks,

[ubuntu] simultaneously copy + scan in xsane using a samsung scx-4300

I want to be able to take continuous scans from my samsung scx-4300 while simultaneously printing each scan out. I'm using xsane to control the device, but it allows me to only either save the scanned file as a digital image in my computer or print a hardcopy. I am wondering if there is a way to make it first scan the image, then print the copy and to loop this process?

Alternatively, how can I control the print and scan functions of my printer through command line, so that I can write a script to automate this process?

This new printer is giving me fits. It's a Pantum P2502W. Works fine when I boot into Windows 10. I've got Ubuntu 18.04.3. I've gone through the install, loaded the driver, and all I get is "Job stopped." Nothing in the troubleshooting log. Oh, I'm on an Asus 52 laptop. Ideas?

Got a new Brother laser printer HL-L 2390DW.
Installed it with Windows 10 and it works fine.

Installed this Brother printer on my desktop running Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS and it runs and copies documents fine using Firefox, Chrome and Vivaldi. It will copy documents fine but I can't get it to scan. Tried using Simple Scan which reports it can't fine any scan device.

Help?
What needs to be done to make the scan feature work?

[SOLVED] Secondary Monitor not working with USB to HDMI adapter

$

I recently bought a usb to HDMI adapter for my laptops. I had been running KDE Neon and was able to get the software to work on that distro, although the monitor had some severe lag. Moving over to Ubuntu, and yes I know KDE Neon is Ubuntu based, I though I would try it here. The problem is is that I have the software installed for the adapter but I can't access my secondary monitor. This is a pic of the display manager that comes with Ubuntu. You would think that it would have a visual design for the monitors but it doesn't and that is really confusing me. Is there another software to manage multi monitors?? I know I have to be doing something wrong here. Thanks in advance.

Screenshot from 2019-11-26 20-04-37.jpg

btw, the adapter is a Cable Matters Superspeed USB to HDMI and here is the link to the Ubuntu Drivers

Will memory work to boost the computer

So I have taken a new position at a non profit and am a house manager of a group home, however, the computer is slow.

It is an HP p2-1317cb. It has an AMD 1800 processor (dual core, 1.7 ghz), 6 gb ram, AMD 7340 Graphics.

Now this computer is used for work and is really efficient energy wise. It logs for residents and it hold the client files, all it needs to do. So replacing it is not required. The problem is it is slow at loading webpages and things, or video, or when many things are open.

I checked on a hunch how much vram (shared with computer) it has, it is 385mb. I suspect that this is a major part of the slowness as the monitor is newer and is 1920 x 1080p and is connected via a vga connection. My thought is if I upgraded the ram to 8GB (its max) that the computer would allocate more towards hardware dedicated memory (including graphics) and this would speed things up. It has a 30GB internet connection so that is not an issue. Upgrading the ram would cost about $14-$25.

Laptop keyboard/trackpad not working after upgrade to 19.10

Hi all,

I had been running Ubuntu 19.04 on my Dell XPS 9560 for a while now. 2 days ago I upgraded to 19.10.

Ever since the update, I'm unable to use my laptop keyboard or trackpad. They are both totally unresponsive. 90% of the time I use an external keyboard and mouse, so it hasn't been a catastrophic issue, but I definitely want to get it fixed sooner rather than later. I am dual-booting this laptop with Windows, and the keyboard and trackpad work normally in both windows and in the grub menu.

On 19.04 I would sometimes have an issue where the keyboard/trackpad would not work, but putting the laptop to sleep and waking it back up would normally do the trick. This does not work with 19.10.

Can anyone advise?

Thanks in advance!

Dual monitor DisplayPort & VGA not working

I have installed Ubuntu 19.10 on a Lenovo ThinkCenter M710e. It has a DVI and DisplayPort outputs. If I plug a monitor into the DVI port then Ubuntu will only boot to a black screen unless I use nomodeset. Without the VGA monitor it boots up just fine and uses the DisplayPort monitor.

lspci shows:

Code:

$ lspci | grep VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation HD Graphics 630 (rev 04)

Ubuntu doesn't show any third party drivers available to install. I would really like to get the dual monitors working but I'm not sure where to go from here. Can anybody help me determine what needs to be done?

When adding a printer, I'm running into problems printing a test page. It successfully found the printer, a Canon D480, and used the Generic Text-Only Printer driver. But when trying to print the test page I got the below message: Failed to perform request: Unsupported format "application/vnd.cups-pdf-banner". Running an up-to-date Kubuntu 18.04. How can I get this problem resolved?

I have a Ubuntu 19.10 Server installation.

I'm trying to setup some HP printers on this.

First, I installed CUPS:

Code:

sudo apt install cups
I then edited /etc/cups/cupsd.conf

I then added my user to the lpadmin group, and also enabled remote admin access to the CUPS admin page:

Code:

sudo usermod -aG lpadmin victorhooi
sudo cupsctl --remote-admin

I then installed the HP LJP drivers:
Code:

sudo apt install hplip printer-driver-hpcups
I then tried to add a network printer:
Code:

$ hp-setup -i 10.63.27.15

Also - if I go to the CUPS web admin page, I see HPLIP listed under local printers - but not networked printers?

Is there something special you need to get HP network printers working with CUPS and HPLIP?

[SOLVED] Can someone confirm if this is Linux compatible?

We need to replace a laptop, and we found one on sale tomorrow (Black Friday Door Crasher). My gf uses Kubuntu/Mate for her work (basic graphics & writing). I think the specs should give her lots of room to grow, but also most bang for the buck!

The system we are looking at is an MSi GL65 9SE-055CA with RTX 2060. Are there any known issues with installing a *buntu (I know I will probably have to upgrade BIOS first off). I have looked through the "compatible" and not compatible lists here, along with searching various versions of the product name.
Thanks in advance.

I have a Samsung CLX-4195n MFP as a network device.
From a windows device, both the scanner and printer work across subnets.

From my linux desktop, both the scanner and printer work if used with a cable connection on the same subnet.

If i connect via wifi or cable to a different subnet, the printer still works, but not the scanner.

device sits on 192.168.2.10
access network is from 192.168.4.x

i had to open 22161 and 6566 on the linux desktop to get the scanner to work on the same network.

grateful for assistance

[kubuntu] Problems with Nvidia gtx 780 (proprietary drivers)

Hello, I'm trying to get a gtx 780 to work on my ubuntu installation.
Specifically it's this model from asus https://www.asus.com/Graphics-Cards/GTX780DC23GD5/

At first I had the system running on the integrated intel gpu.
Then I installed the nvidia proprietary drivers (newest ones, nvidia-driver-440) and put in the graphics card. When I booted, after the the kubuntu logo I see a black screen with a blinking underscore.
Trying different drivers gets me the same result, the older drivers (340,390) giving me additional blue tears on the screen and no option to switch to tty2 with Ctrl-Alt-F2.
Created /etc/modeprobe.d/blacklist-nvidia-nouveau.conf
containing
Code:

blacklist nouveau
options nouveau modeset=0

No change.
Tried adding nomodeset in grub, no change.

After changing a line in /etc/default/grub from
Code:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
to
Code:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash nvidia-drm.modeset=1"
I got X running again but it doesn't use the driver and the resolution is 640x480.

Currently I'm having the nvidia-driver-418 installed.
If I install older drivers (390 for example) I get the black screen with blinking underscore and blue tears, installing newer drivers get X to run but it doesn't load the drivers.

I've searched quite a lot and I'm a bit lost. Hopefully someone can help me.

Hi Everyone,

I'm am using Simple Scan to connect to my 3 in 1 HP Deskjet 3050A (Printer, Scanner, Copier). However, I can't scan using Simple Scan or Xsane. I am getting a "No Scanner Detected" message. Both the printing and copy features are working fine.

Scanning did work before, with a previous printer I had of the exact same make and model. But ever since I got the replacement printer, I cannot get it to scan.

I am using Ubuntu 18.04 LTS.

If anyone can help, I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

I have bionic beaver loaded. Is there any way to load a utility to monitor the hardware raid 1 array from hp. On the windows side it was on a web server. I found several older articles for older version but they don't work anymore on this new version.
Any ideas?
